Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate whether mindful meditation programs conducted in ACT(Acceptance &Commitment Therapy) and MBCT(Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) were effective in changing in depression and anxiety.

Methods : In order to achieve this, we have performed meta-analysis of the studies on ACT and MBCT among studies published in the national academic journals, master thesis, and doctoral thesis. Dependent variables were limited to depressive and anxiety symptoms. By using meta analysis method, we retrieved journal articles published in Korea between 2009 and 2015 using keyword searches of electronic databases.

Result : The result of analysis showed that both ACT and MBCT had significant effect on reducing depressive symptom (Hedges¡¯g=-0.71) with p<0.01 level. It also had significant effect on reducing anxiety symptom (Hedges¡¯g = -1.134) with p<0.01 level as well. It implied that ACT and MBCT interventions could be useful interventions to the both of depressive and anxiety symptoms. In the case of intervention for depressive symptoms, college student group showed better results than adult group. In addition, ACT program had more effect on reducing depressive symptoms than MBCT program. In the case of intervention for anxiety symptoms, mixed gender group of men and women showed better results than women group.

Conclusion : In terms of gender of participants, target participants, availability of mindfulness techniques, number of sessions and duration of one session, there were no statistically significant difference.
